Uzbekistan discusses initiatives to expand cooperation with EEC

On October 28, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held talks in Moscow with the EEC Board Chairman Mikhail Myasnikovich.

The sides discussed the current state of relations between Uzbekistan and EEU member states, considered mechanisms for addressing common challenges. The parties agreed to take joint measures to promote the principles of mutually beneficial economic partnership, equality and consideration of national interests, as well as to create additional opportunities for further expansion of collaboration.

Development of industrial cooperation, simplification and digitization of trade procedures, improving norms and standards in the field of sanitation, phytosanitary and veterinary medicine, diversification of transport corridors, exchange of technologies and protection of the environment were also considered at the meeting.

In order to expand trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and the EEU member states, it was agreed to jointly develop a “roadmap” in cooperation with the EEC. It includes collaboration between the relevant departments of the EEC in the fields of trade, industry, customs and tax administration, technical regulation, sanitary and phytosanitary standards, energy, pharmaceuticals, labor migration and other areas.

The parties also agreed to work together to attract potential investors from the EEU member states to establish industrial cooperation and implement joint investment projects.

At the end of the meeting, priority measures were identified to address the set tasks and to promote the agreed initiatives.
