District deputy mayor in Syrdarya caught with $1,000 in alleged bribery incident
The deputy mayor of the Khavast district in Syrdarya region was detained by the State Security Service and prosecution authorities during a planned operation.
The official allegedly leveraged his position to demand $20,000 from an LLC in exchange for not transferring the company's land to the mayor's reserve and instead facilitating irrigation works and ensuring non-interference in business activities. He was arrested while receiving $1,000 of the requested amount.
A criminal case has been launched regarding the incident, and pre-trial detention as a preventive measure has been applied to the individual in question.
