Tashkent Metro to receive 104 new cars by 2025, cutting intervals on major lines to 2–3 minutes
By the end of the year, 48 new cars are expected to be delivered to the capital, with an additional 56 arriving in 2025.
The Tashkent Metro has announced plans for further improvements to its services. The press service of the Ministry of Transport released the announcement.
By the end of 2024, 48 new cars are expected to arrive in the capital. In 2025, the rolling stock will be supplemented with another 56 modern cars.
This should allow the reduction of train intervals on key lines—Chilanzar, Uzbekistan, Yunusabad, and the Ring Overground Line—to 2–3 minutes, compared to the current 4–9 minutes.
Among the achievements of the metro, significant revenue growth has been noted—from 63 billion UZS in 2016 to 477 billion UZS in 2023. The average salary of metro workers has also increased almost eightfold, reaching 6.2 million UZS in 2024.
In August 2022, plans were announced to purchase an additional 14 trains with 56 cars. The chief specialist of the Tashkent metro, Abdutoir Abdukodirov, noted that this would help reduce train intervals.
The General Director of Transmashholding, which includes Metrovagonmash, Kirill Lipa, confirmed at the "Innoprom. Central Asia" exhibition in April 2023 that a contract had been signed with the Tashkent metro for the delivery of more than 50 cars. Both Russian companies are on the U.S. sanctions list.
In October last year, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Transport announced that the first batch of new cars would arrive in Tashkent within two months.
An additional delivery of cars was also announced by Metrovagonmash in May 2024. The company planned to deliver 72 cars by 2026. Additionally, in June, 12 cars were expected to be shipped from Russia, with 60 units of rolling stock set to be delivered to Uzbekistan in 2024–2025.
