The "Ezgulik" Human Rights Society from Uzbekistan has been honored with the " Liberty, Equality and Fraternity" International Award by the French Republic. This announcement was made on December 4 by the French National Consultative Commission on Human Rights.
"Founded in 2002, "Ezgulik" is the only independent human rights organization registered in Uzbekistan. The award-winning project will raise awareness among civilians in Uzbekistan about the forced recruitment of Uzbek workers and prisoners living in Russia into the Russian army," the commission's statement said.
The "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity" Human Rights Award, established in 1988 by the CNCDH, seeks to recognize the critical role of civil society in the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide.
Each year, this prestigious award is presented to five civil society organizations around the globe. Alongside "Ezgulik," this year’s recipients include the "Mandela" Center in Cameroon, the "Citizens" organization in Haiti, the Ludirlena Pérez Carvajal organization in Colombia, and the "Caesar" organization in Syria.
The award ceremony will take place on December 10, International Human Rights Day, in Paris. The French Prime Minister will present the award to Abdurahmon Tashanov, leader of the "Ezgulik" Human Rights Society.
