Uzbekistan confirms two Russians wanted in connection with attempted assassination of Komil Allamjonov

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan has announced that Russian citizens Bislan Rasaev and Shamil Temirhanov have been charged with illegal entry into and exit from Uzbekistan, failing to report a crime, and unlawfully handling firearms. The two individuals have been placed on the wanted list in connection with the criminal case involving the attempted assassination of Komil Allamjonov.

“B. Rasaev and Sh. Temirhanov have been charged in absentia under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and arrest warrants have been issued as a preventive measure. They have been declared wanted,” the statement said.

It was previously reported by Kun.uz last week, citing information on the Interpol website, that the two individuals, who are reportedly from Chechnya, had been placed on an international wanted list by Uzbekistan.

According to foreign media, Rasaev and Temirhanov were allegedly hired to assassinate Komil Allamjonov, the former official of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, and Dmitry Li, Director of the National Agency of Perspective Projects. It is claimed that they were promised a reward of $1.5 million by the mastermind of the plan for the two murders.

Assassination attempt on Komil Allamjonov

Komil Allamjonov, who served as the head of the Department of Information Policy within the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan until September 30, 2024, was attacked near his home in Qibray on October 26. Several shots were fired at the car he was in. Allamjonov himself was unharmed in the incident.

In an earlier statement issued on November 25, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that seven individuals had been detained in connection with the crime. The identity of only one suspect was disclosed: Javlon Yusupov, who was extradited from South Korea. The statement also mentioned that another suspect had been detained in Kazakhstan.

In November, several senior officials within the State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were dismissed from their positions. According to sources, these dismissals were connected to the ongoing investigation into the attempted assassination of Allamjonov.
