Uzbekistan to transition to market-based freight rail tariffs in 2025
Uzbekistan Railways has announced an increase in rates for domestic freight rail transport services, revising the coefficients for tariffs on infrastructure services (general-use tracks) and locomotives, as outlined in the price list 10-01, with the changes set to take effect on January 15, 2025.
The new coefficients will be as follows:
- 0.814 for transport involving the "Tashguzar — Boysun — Kumkurgan" line;
- 0.921 for the "Angren-Pop" line;
- 0.921 (a unified coefficient) for both the "Tashguzar — Boysun — Kumkurgan" and "Angren — Pop" sections;
- 0.774 for routes excluding the specified lines.
The last adjustment to the coefficients occurred in October 2023. Additionally, in November, Uzbekistan Railways announced a 30% increase in rates for providing freight wagons for domestic transport.
The revised "Railway Transport Law" introduces market-based pricing for freight transport and eliminates discounts on domestic freight services in Uzbekistan. However, the draft law allows for the possibility of offering discounts through separate decisions by the Cabinet of Ministers.
