Uzbekistan and Iran waive entry fees for freight trucks
The governments of Uzbekistan and Iran have mutually agreed to waive entry and transit fees for freight trucks, marking a significant step in reducing costs for bilateral and transit trade. The zero-rate fees are effective as of January 10, 2025, according to Uzbekistan's Ministry of Transport.
Previously, Iranian authorities charged $400 for the entry of Uzbek freight trucks. This fee elimination applies to cargo transported to and from Iran, as well as transit through Iranian territory. The decision is expected to facilitate trade and improve logistics efficiency for Uzbek carriers.
The Uzbek government reciprocated by waiving entry and transit fees for Iranian freight vehicles, as stipulated in the 2025 State Budget Law. The Ministry of Transport noted that the zero-fee arrangement was established on a parity basis to ensure equitable benefits for both countries.
While Uzbekistan has removed fees for Iranian trucks, it has increased tariffs for freight vehicles from Turkmenistan. For trucks weighing up to 20 tons, the fee has been raised by $80, while those exceeding 20 tons now incur a $100 increase. Additionally, the surcharge for goods transported from third countries has more than doubled, reaching $375.
Differentiated tariffs were also introduced for freight vehicles from Azerbaijan and European Union countries. Trucks staying in Uzbekistan for less than two weeks will pay $80, while those exceeding this duration will be charged $280.
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that negotiations with other countries, including Turkmenistan, will continue to optimize costs for Uzbek carriers.
