Uzbekistan’s taxi market reaches 6 trillion UZS milestone in 2024

In 2024, the taxi market in Uzbekistan reached a volume of 5.89 trillion UZS, with the average payment per trip amounting to 18,456 UZS.

The State Tax Committee has reported on the progress made in legalizing the taxi market.

During the summer, 142 taxi aggregators were integrated into the tax authorities' information systems, and by the end of the year, this number had grown to 155.

Key figures

  • Passenger transport: A total of 319.06 million rides were provided.
  • Turnover: The taxi service turnover amounted to 5.89 trillion UZS (up from 3 trillion UZS in the summer).
  • Cash payments accounted for 4.5 trillion UZS (76.3%).
  • Card payments constituted 1.4 trillion UZS (23.7%).
  • Average receipt: The average fare per trip rose from 18,000 UZS in August to 18,456 UZS.

Drivers and employment

Nearly 498,000 self-employed drivers are engaged in passenger transportation through aggregators.

  • Age distribution:
  • 30–50 years old: 283,680 drivers (57%).
  • Under 30 years old: 179,245 drivers (36%).
  • Over 50 years old: 35,004 drivers (7%).

The number of female drivers has increased nearly fourfold, from 1,053 at the beginning of the year to 4,124 by the year’s end.

Driver earnings

Driver income distribution during the year:

  • Over 100 million UZS: ~4,700 drivers.
  • 50–100 million UZS: 23,100 drivers.
  • 10–50 million UZS: 114,600 drivers.
  • 5–10 million UZS: 63,500 drivers.
  • 1–5 million UZS: 136,400 drivers.
  • Up to 1 million UZS: 155,500 drivers.

Popular cars

Passengers were primarily transported in the following vehicles:

  • Nexia: 17.8%.
  • Cobalt: 16.9%.
  • Lacetti: 13.9%.
  • Spark: 10.7%.
  • Matiz: 7.9%.

Additionally, 4,906 drivers used Trackers, 1,345 used Epicas, 1,560 used BYD Songs, 1,265 used Captivas, and 1,049 used Monzas. Electric vehicles accounted for 1.2% of the fleet.

Vehicle age

The distribution of vehicles by production year:

  • 1–3 years old: 10.4%.
  • 3–5 years old: 9%.
  • 5–10 years old: 23.6%.
  • Over 10 years old: 56.9%.

Regional distribution

The majority of trips occurred in:

  • Tashkent: 51.6%.
  • Samarkand: 7.65%.
  • Fergana: 7.56%.
  • Bukhara: 6%.
  • Andijan: 5.74%.
  • Karakalpakstan: 5%.

Tax contributions

In 2024, taxi aggregators paid 156.8 billion UZS in taxes, of which 66.2 billion UZS were Value-Added Tax (VAT).
