Self-employed population in Uzbekistan reaches 4.4 million with a 76.5% increase in 2024

The State Tax Committee reported that, as of January 1, 2025, the number of self-employed individuals in Uzbekistan exceeded 4.4 million. Over the course of the year, this figure grew by 76.5% (1.9 million people). The largest increases were observed in the household services sector, as well as in manufacturing and service industries.

Growth in various sectors throughout the year was as follows:

  • Household services: 104.3% (+976,000 individuals, totaling 1,912,000)
  • Manufacturing and services: 94.6% (+203,100 individuals, totaling 417,800)
  • Information and communications: 87% (+55,700 individuals, totaling 119,700)
  • Social services: 55.9% (+178,200 individuals, totaling 496,900)
  • Agricultural services: 53.6% (+386,000 individuals, totaling 1,106,500)
  • Industrial services: 49.6% (+138,900 individuals, totaling 418,900)

According to the data, 58% of self-employed individuals are men, and 42% are women.

In the light vehicle passenger transport sector, 707,300 individuals were registered, with 450,500 of them being newly registered in 2024. Earlier, the State Tax Committee reported that the official taxi market in Uzbekistan reached 5.89 trillion UZS in 2024. The average payment per trip amounted to 18,456 UZS. Throughout the year, nearly 320 million trips were made, with 23.7% of payments processed via cards.

Among the regions, the highest number of self-employed individuals were registered in Samarkand province (508,100 individuals).
