Syrdarya governor dismissed from office, 16 other governors reprimanded for investment shortcomings
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced the dismissal of Akmaljon Makhmudaliev from his position as governor of Syrdarya region during a presidential meeting focused on investment and export issues, citing Makhmudaliev’s serious shortcomings in attracting investments, developing agriculture, and other key activities in the region.
Akmaljon Makhmudaliev had served as the governor of Syrdarya region since November 26, 2022. Throughout his career, he held various notable positions, including being a responsible official in the Cabinet of Ministers, governor of Uchkuprik district in Fergana region, and deputy governor of Navoi region for agriculture and water management.
Reprimands issued to district and city governors
During the same meeting on January 16, President Mirziyoyev also issued reprimands to the governors of 16 districts and cities for neglecting critical investment and export responsibilities.
The President expressed concerns about the lack of progress in certain regions.
“Last year, districts such as Beruniy, Karauzyak, Kungrad, Peshku, Yangiobod, Qamashi, Khonqa, and Shovot failed to attract even $15 million in investments. Meanwhile, exports declined in Romitan, Dehqonobod, Mirishkor, Chirakchi, Narpay, Nurobod, Gulistan districts, and Ohangaron city. Reprimands have been issued to the governors of these 16 districts and cities,” the President’s Press Service reported.
The following governors received official reprimands:
- Ikrom Torebayevich Khidirov, governor of Beruniy district
- Anvar Makhsetovich Baymuratov, governor of Karauzyak district
- Bekzod Bahodirovich Madaminov, governor of Kungrad district
- Hayot Hasanovich Davlatov, governor of Peshku district
- Ibrokhim Boltaevich Karshiboyev, governor of Yangiobod district
- Khurshid Abdukarimovich Usmonov, governor of Qamashi district
- Muradbek Saparboevich Davlatov, governor of Khonqa district
- Oybek Madaminovich Kholboyev, governor of Shovot district
- Umedjon Isoevich Barnoyev, governor of Romitan district
- Sherzod Utkirovich Shokirov, governor of Dehqonobod district
- Fayzullo Qurbonovich Gulomov, governor of Mirishkor district
- Fayzulla Yakubovich Yusupov, governor of Chirakchi district
- Sherbek Erkinovich Buranov, governor of Narpay district
- Sirojiddin Valikulovich Berdikulov, governor of Nurobod district
- Ulmasjon Yarmakhammatovich Mamadaminov, governor of Gulistan district
- Muzaffar Erkabayevich Rajabboev, governor of Ohangaron city
New monitoring system for investments
A new system has been introduced to ensure more effective monitoring of investments. Under this system:
The Prime Minister will approve a month-by-month plan for achieving the year’s target of $42 billion in foreign investments;
Regional, city, and district governors, as well as sector leaders, will dedicate two days each week exclusively to investment-related tasks;
Officials are required to visit regions regularly, meet with entrepreneurs, and resolve issues on-site to foster investment and development.
