Uzbekistan, India sign an agreement on long-term uranium supplies

The President of Uzbekistan completed his working visit to India and departed for Tashkent, the presidential press service reported.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited India on January 17-18 to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit-2019. The head of state held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and delivered a speech at a major economic event.
 
Within the framework of the visit, several documents were signed between the parties. 

“A technopark of advanced information technologies in Tashkent and a pharmaceutical zone in the Andijan region are being created jointly with Indian partners. With the Eximbank of India, an agreement was reached on the allocation of a preferential credit loan in the amount of $200 million to finance socially important projects in Uzbekistan,” the report reads.

From the new academic year leading universities of India Amity and Sharda will open their branch offices.

The sides noted the importance of accelerating the practical implementation of priority projects and cooperation programs, primarily in the field of information and communication technologies, health care, the pharmaceutical industry, the jewelry industry, agriculture, modernization of tourism infrastructure and other areas.

Particular attention was paid to the further expansion of cultural and humanitarian exchange.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan and India signed an agreement on long-term uranium supplies.

It should be recalled that in August 2014, the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combinat and the Indian UCIL signed a contract providing for the purchase of up to 500 tons of Uzbek uranium per year in 2014-2018.

Uzbekistan is one of the world leaders in uranium reserves and ranks 7th in its production.

There was also an exchange of views on current aspects of international and regional politics. Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Narendra Modi confirmed their determination to actively develop full-scale cooperation between the two countries.
