By 2030, Uzbekistan intends to strengthen integration with the power systems of neighboring countries, increasing the volume of imports and exports of electricity, Deputy Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjayev said.

“Let's not forget about integration with neighboring power systems. By 2030, we plan to double the import and export of electricity,” he said, speaking at a roundtable on reforms in the energy sector.

According to him, the intended plans are “not the limit”, as the indicators may raise under favorable circumstances.

Experts predict that by 2030, the need for electricity in Uzbekistan will double – up to 117 billion kWh. Without the introduction of new sources of generation, the existing deficit will amount to 48 billion kWh (the country’s current annual demand for electricity is 69 billion kWh.)
