Said-Abdulaziz Yusupov released from prison

On May 10, 2019, Said-Abdulaziz Yusupov was arrested on charges of committing crimes under Article 168 (fraud) of the Criminal Code. On July 8, 2020, he was released from prison.

Yusupov’s lawyer Arslon Shaymardonov told Kun.uz that his client was released as the sustained damage had been covered.

According to an official statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Said-Abdulaziz Yusupov was charged with “introducing himself as a State Security Service official and fraudulently extorting large sums of money from people.”

Two days after his arrest, Yusupov’s video appeal, recorded on September 25, 2018, appeared on social networks, in which he claimed that the criminal case was falsified.

Deputy Prosecutor General Erkin Yuldashev said at an AIMC press conference on June 14, 2019, that Yusupov’s case was under control.

Yusupov’s case was heard in a closed court, media coverage of the trial was not allowed.

For information, Said-Abdulaziz Yusupov was born in 1982 in Navoi. He is a citizen of Uzbekistan. Before his arrest, he worked as acting director of the Public Fund for Support and Development of Independent Print Media and News Agencies of Uzbekistan.

Reportedly, the fund headed by Yusupov does not operate at the moment.
