Ministry of Public Education: Requirements for school uniforms have not changed
The Ministry of Public Education has stated that the new version of the law “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations” will not lead to changes in the dress code of schoolchildren.
According to the ministerial statement, the Resolution No. 666 of the Cabinet of Ministers of August 15, 2018 “On measures to provide students of public secondary schools with modern uniforms” approved the Regulation on the procedure for the introduction of uniforms for students of secondary public schools.
“Today, students of secondary public schools are required to dress in accordance with the requirements of this Regulation and school uniform approved by the educational institution. From the 2024/2025 academic year, the school uniform approved by the government is mandatory for public general secondary education institutions, according to the Resolution No. 509 of the Cabinet of Ministers of June 18, 2019.
The regulations state that students must walk around the school without a hat, and that school uniforms must not include elements of different religions and belonging to different subcultures (hijab, kipa, kashaya, cross, etc.).
According to the regulations, non-compliance with the rules of wearing school uniforms by students is a violation of the internal rules of the educational institution, and such students will be punished,” the statement said.
On August 15, 2018, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on a single school uniform.
In May 2019, Saida Mirziyoeva, who used to be then deputy director of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications, stressed the need to focus on other problems in schools rather than making school uniforms mandatory.
Later, on June 19, 2019, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted Resolution No. 509 “On amendments to the Resolution No. 666 “On measures to provide students of public secondary schools with a modern uniform”.
This document amended only paragraphs 3 and 7 of Resolution No. 666, stipulating that the uniform will be introduced from the 2024-2025 academic year, not from the 2019-2020 academic year.
