“We have not received any documents” – State Traffic Safety Department continues to collect a car purchase fee
Despite the entry into force of the 2022 budget law, citizens are still required to pay a car purchase fee.
The Law “On the State Budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2022”, which entered into force on January 1, 2022, unlike previous years, does not provide for a fee for the purchase of vehicles, depending on the year of manufacture of the vehicle and engine power. This means that from January 1, 2022, such a fee will not be collected by the State Traffic Safety Service.
However, judging by the appeals to Kun.uz editorial office, car owners are still required to pay this fee.
In particular, one of the applicants said that when on January 5 he came to the Traffic Safety Department of the Zangiata district, Tashkent region, to register a Lacetti car, which he bought on December 28, he was required to pay the same fee.
“I was told that I would have to pay 3,148,000 soums, depending on the year of manufacture and engine power. I informed the employee that the fee was canceled under the new law. But he did not want to understand. “By what decision was it canceled? We have not received any documents yet. You will pay everything in full,” the citizen said in his appeal.
According to Azizkhon Murodov, a spokesman for the information service of the State Traffic Safety Department under the MIA, similar cases were recorded in other registration departments, these departments have not yet received instructions regarding this fee, and the application of the provisions of the new law will be carried out within 1-2 days, which will be communicated to the public.
Since the issue is directly related to the state budget, Kun.uz also contacted the Ministry of Finance. According to the ministerial information service, the date of car purchase will be taken into account. That is, if the vehicle was purchased on or after January 1, 2022, no fee will be charged. If the car was purchased in 2021, the new law does not apply to such cars.
For reference: when buying a new car or a car from the secondary market, the car must be registered with the traffic police within 10 days.
Previously, Kun.uz published articles about the long-standing problem of the need to revise duties for the registration of used cars, the high cost of registering a car on the secondary market under the buyer’s name, and the risks of notarization of a relatively cheap general power of attorney.
