Uzbekistan among top 20 countries in terms of mobile Internet affordability

Over the past year, the average price of 1 GB has decreased by 40%, and in the last three years - by almost nine times.

The average tariff for mobile Internet in Uzbekistan has decreased by almost 40% over the year, according to data from the Cable.co.uk portal.

As of May, 1 GB of mobile traffic, based on a comparison of 28 tariff plans, costs an average of $0.3712. According to this indicator, the republic ranked 15th in the world and 2nd in the CIS (after Kyrgyzstan).

In 2021, Uzbekistan was in 22nd position with an average traffic price of $0.6 for 1 GB. In addition to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan was also ahead in terms of the availability of mobile Internet with $0.59.

An even more tangible shift in positions occurred in the previous two years. In 2020, Uzbekistan ranked 55th ($1.34), and in 2019 - 69th ($3.27). In other words, over three years, mobile Internet has fallen in price by an average of 8.8 times.

The cheapest traffic in Central Asia and the CIS is now offered in Kyrgyzstan - $0.17 per gigabyte. In the world, it ranks 6th, having dropped four positions in a year.

Kazakhstan with a slight gap ($0.3726) is one line below Uzbekistan. Ukraine took 24th position with an average price of $0.43, Russia - 30th ($0.48).

The most expensive Internet in the region is in Turkmenistan ($14.27 per 1 GB and 227th place). Tajikistan also stands out with higher tariffs, taking 131st place ($1.94).

According to the authors, low mobile Internet prices correlate with developed infrastructure and high demand. In turn, in more developed countries, traffic often costs more.

Israel is recognized as the country with the most affordable mobile Internet with an average price of $0.04 per gigabyte. In second place is Italy ($0.12), in third is San Marino ($0.12). Also in the top five were Fiji ($0.15) and India ($0.17).

The outsiders on the list include mainly island territories - the British-owned St. Helena Islands ($41.06) and the Falkland Islands ($38.45), as well as the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe ($29.49).
