7 women become victims of murder in a month, responsible officials remain silent
In the last month in Uzbekistan, 7 women were brutally killed by their husbands, more than ten children were left motherless. Organizations that should protect women’s rights keep silent.
August 25. In Kuyi Chirchik, a 24-year-old woman was killed by her husband in front of her two children.
September 6. A woman was killed by her 39-year-old husband in Zarbdar district, Jizzakh region. 3 children were orphaned.
September 2. A mother of 4 children was beaten to death by her 40-year-old husband in Gallaorol district, Jizzakh region.
September 12. A 22-year-old woman and her mother died after being stabbed by her son-in-law in Izboskan district, Andijan region.
September 16. In Dangara district of Fergana region, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband who had been drinking alcohol.
On October 1, the bride was slaughtered in Ferghana by her father-in-law.
This is a list of women who have been victims of violence in recent days. It is a horrible list, isn’t it?
So are we a nation that cannot protect its women? No, on the contrary, we have so many organizations created to improve women’s rights and their way of life that it makes one think that the women of this country live like princesses.
Kun.uz compiled a list of organizations organized for this purpose:
1. State Committee for Family and Women
2. Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality
3. Commission on Family and Women’s Affairs of the Legislative Chamber
4. Republican commission on increasing the role of women and girls in society, gender equality and family issues
5. Scientific and practical center “Oila”.
6. “Family and Women” Research Institute
7. “Leader of Gender Justice” team under the Senate
8. Centers for women’s employment and health promotion
9. “Smart Women” (“Oqila ayollar”) movement
10. Council of mothers-in-law.
State Committee for Family and Women
It was established in order to protect women, increase their role in society, and fight against violence. About 1,000 employees work across the country.
Tablets are provided that allow remote reporting and participation in meetings in the form of videoconferencing. It has been provided with buildings and structures, money has been allocated from the state budget for its expenses.
Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality
A large team also works in the committee, which was established under the instructions of Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The committee is responsible for developing proposals for the implementation of universally recognized international norms on the elimination of all forms of discrimination of women’s rights into national legislation. It has been assigned the task of monitoring the implementation of the norms of the international documents signed by the Republic of Uzbekistan on gender equality issues and the implementation of the recommendations specified therein.
Legislative Chamber Committee on Family and Women’s Affairs
A commission consisting of a large group on family and women's issues has been established under the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, and reports on its activities every 6 months.
Republican commission on increasing the role of women and girls in society, gender equality and family issues
The name of this large republican commission changed earlier this year. The previous name was the Republican Gender Equality Commission.
By the decision of the Senate Council, the commission was assigned the task of participating in the implementation of the state policy aimed at increasing the role of women in society, achieving gender equality between women and men, and strengthening the family.
In addition, the commission carries out systematic control over the implementation of legislative documents aimed at ensuring gender equality, women’s rights and legal interests, and submits information about this to the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
We are very interested in what information this commission, which reports directly to the Senate, provides about the current state of women.
Scientific and practical center “Oila”
This center, which deals with the study of pedagogical, psychological, socio-psychological, ethno-pedagogical, ethno-psychological problems of the family, as well as preparation of proposals and recommendations on development prospects, is still silent. There are also 26 employees in the central structure in addition to regions, cities, and districts.
The center has been provided with a service car and is financed from the state budget.
Research Institute “Family and Women”
The previous name was the "Neighbourhood and Family" Scientific Research Institute. The institute is allocated a limit for keeping 3 vehicles, including 2 light and 1 duty vehicles, and has 34 employees.
“Leader of Gender Justice” team
The “Leader of Gender Justice” team under the Women’s and Gender Equality Committee of the Senate was formed, and 80 young people were selected for it. This team also did not record any results other than holding a meeting.
Women’s employment and health promotion centers
A large amount of funds have been allocated to these centers established by the State Committee for Family and Women.
“Smart Women” movement
This new movement was organized under the State Committee for Family and Women. The task of the movement is to implement measures aimed at instilling in women, especially young girls, feelings of loyalty to the family and homeland, self-sacrifice, initiative, and forming the image of a “decent girl” and “enlightened mother”. According to information, a list of intelligent women is being formed in mahallas.
Another council formed with such a list is even more surprising:
Council of mothers-in-law
The “Council of mothers-in-law” organized by the “Mahalla” Charitable Public Fund compiles a list of marrying families and works with them. Although it is said that the council in more than 8,000 mahallas in Uzbekistan has solved the problems of more than 21,000 families, the number of victims of young women in families is increasing.
***
In general, salaries, cars, buildings, and luxury equipment are allocated to all structures in this list from the budget – public money. But they are not fulfilling their main task, they are not protecting women.
The list of murdered women and orphaned children proves in practice that they are not able to fulfill their duty. It has been a long time since the internal affairs agencies chose the path of not saying anything about this issue. These agencies, which should be prepared first for the protection of women and children, can only burn their lives for statistics today.
It should be recalled that the Women’s Committee is given the task of ensuring the rights and legal interests of women, as well as the right to make submissions on legislation on strengthening the family and protecting women from violence and oppression.
The series of these structures can be continued again, but none of them are serving the benefit of women. On their sites, you will not find anything except meetings, reports, and presentations.
Note: the number of such organizations is more than the number of women killed. But everyone remains silent. This inaction, standing still and mere watching is costing us a lot.
