Shavkat Mirziyoyev holds a meeting on improving energy supply
In 2023, 7 projects of 197 megawatts and 10 micro-hydroelectric power stations will be put into operation, and the construction of 50 micro-hydroelectric plants will begin. A task was given to build wind and solar hybrid stations around hydropower facilities.
On January 19, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on improving energy supply and got acquainted with the plans in the hydropower network.
At the meeting, it was noted that all sources are being used in the development of the energy system in Uzbekistan, and solar, wind and hydroelectric facilities are being built along with the strengthening of existing capacities.
“In particular, in recent years, 27 projects worth $500 million have been implemented in the field of hydropower, and additional 260 megawatt capacities have been created. The total capacity of the stations in the “Uzbekhydroenergo” system has exceeded 2 thousand megawatts. This means that 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas is saved per year. In 2023, 7 projects with a capacity of 197 megawatts and 10 micro hydropower plants are planned to be commissioned. The work on the construction of 8 promising projects with a capacity of 438 megawatts and 50 micro hydroelectric power stations will begin,” the press service of the head of state said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the high potential in hydropower and gave instructions for a sharp increase in capacity.
“250 areas where micro hydropower stations can be built have been identified. According to estimates, in the future, these facilities can produce 675 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and save 200 million cubic meters of gas. After the purchase of electricity from micro hydroelectric power plants at high prices was established, the interest of businessmen in the field increased,” the report said.
A task was given to build hybrid stations adapted to wind and solar energy in vacant areas around hydropower facilities. It was said that costs will be low due to the presence of ready-made infrastructure there.
The head of state also touched upon the issue of localization in the field. “Suvsanoatmash” JSC was commissioned to manufacture micro hydropower equipment and hydro aggregates in Tashkent region.
Attention was also paid to issues of digitalization of water reservoir management and improvement of personnel qualifications.
At the meeting, measures to provide residents with energy were discussed. The President emphasized the need to use all available reserves and implement new and prospective projects without delay.
In the conditions of energy shortage, the tasks of increasing daily production, fair and efficient distribution of resources, consistent delivery to places, and quick elimination of interruptions were defined.
