New law: Child support defaulters face up to 120 hours of mandatory community service

In connection with the further improvement of the system of protection of women’s and children’s rights, amendments and additions were made to some legal documents.

One of the news is about fathers who avoid paying alimony, and now those who do not pay alimony on time for the maintenance of their minor child will be sentenced to 15 days in prison or 20 BCAs, that is, 6 million fines, also, they will be compulsorily involved in paid community service for up to 120 hours. 

In this case, 50% of the salary of the persons involved in paid public works will be directed to pay off the alimony obligations.

In the previous version of the law, there was a 15-day administrative imprisonment or a fine of 20 BCAs.

For information, in Uzbekistan in 2021, more than 5,300 citizens who refused to pay alimony to their minor children were sentenced to administrative imprisonment. In 2022, this figure will increase to 8,700.

The Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement informed Kun.uz that 25,600 of the more than 48,200 appeals received by the bureau, i.e. 53%, are related to alimony.

This year, 495 billion soums of alimony were collected for the benefit of children in need of financial support according to alimony execution documents.

It is ensured that 13 houses worth 2.2 billion soums and 2 vehicles worth 255 million soums have been given to alimony recipients as advance payments.

The head of the BCE information service, Farrukh Toshpulatov, informed that a total of 6.2 billion soums were allocated to the benefit of 487 alimony recipients at the expense of the “Alimony Payments” state trust fund established under the BCE.

With the intervention of the bureau, more than 6,000 debtors were placed in work, more than 11,200 families were reconciled.
