A round table meeting was held to discuss the bill “On the protection of children from all forms of violence.”

During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Justice Sherzod Rabbiev said that over the past 3 years, more than 2 thousand people lost their parental rights in Uzbekistan.

“Over the past 3 years, more than 2 thousand people have been deprived of parental rights. Most of them, that is 86%, did not fulfill their parental responsibilities, and 14% - abandoned their children, put physical and psychological pressure on them, consumed alcohol and drugs, or deliberately committed a crime threatening the life and health of the child or the spouse,” Rabbiev said.

On October 12, the bill “On the protection of children from all forms of violence” was submitted for public discussion. The project was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, the National Agency for Social Protection, and UNICEF.

The document describes the types of violence against children - physical violence, sexual violence, mental violence, neglect, exploitation, bullying, etc. All forms of violence against children are prohibited and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The general discussion ended on October 27. The bill will now be considered by parliament.
