Uzbekistan votes to declare Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories illegal
The UN has voted on the issue of Israeli settlements in Syria and Palestine.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories illegal.
The resolution is about settlements in East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, which are considered occupied territories.
The resolution was supported by 145 countries, including Uzbekistan. 7 countries (USA, Canada, Israel, Hungary, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Nauru) opposed the adoption of the document. 18 states abstained from voting.
Despite the results, the document will not have legal force, since the United States, which voted against it, has the right of veto (the power to unilaterally block the adoption of a particular decision).
