President pardons a group of convicts on the occasion of Constitution Day
334 persons who are serving sentences in penal institutions and probation bodies and who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of recovery were pardoned.
On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the decree “On pardoning a group of persons who are serving sentences, sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of recovery” as a practical confirmation of the humanitarian policy.
In accordance with the decree, 334 persons who were serving sentences in penal institutions and probation bodies for their crimes committed in accordance with Article 109, Clause 23 of the Constitution, who sincerely regretted their actions and resolutely went on the path to recovery, were pardoned.
Of the pardoned persons, 34 persons were fully released from the main punishment, 249 persons were released from serving the sentence on parole, and the sentence of deprivation of liberty of 6 persons was replaced by a milder punishment. Also, the terms of punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty imposed on 45 persons were reduced.
18 of those pardoned are foreign citizens, 23 – women, 15 – over 60 years old, and 88 – persons who participated in the activities of banned organizations.
Relevant tasks were given to the responsible ministries and agencies to help the pardoned persons return to their families and relatives, adapt to social life, engage in useful work, establish a healthy lifestyle and find a worthy place in society.
