Citizen of Uzbekistan wanted by Interpol detained in Türkiye

Many foreign suspects were detained as part of the “Kafes-31” operation.

Turkish law enforcement authorities detained a total of 42 people wanted on the basis of an Interpol notification in 12 countries. This was announced by the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya on a social network.

According to him, the suspects were detained as part of “Kafes-31” (Cage-31) operation, which was carried out in 13 Turkish regions. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security, the Directorate for Combating Smuggling and Organized Crime, and the Interpol and Europe Department of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The suspects are wanted at the request of Germany, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Sweden, Finland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Egypt, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The number and names of detained Uzbek citizens are not given in the message.

Yerlikaya said that the detainees were involved in crimes such as membership in an organized crime group, illegal weapons trafficking, drug trafficking, premeditated murder, illegal migration, financial fraud, robbery and theft, falsification of official documents and tax evasion.

The minister noted that since the beginning of 2024, 114 wanted persons have been detained as part of the “Kafes-31” under Interpol’s Red Notice.
