Uzbekistan aims to further increase fruit and vegetable exports

At the meeting, the vital role of the Agency for Quarantine and Plant Protection in facilitating agricultural exports was acknowledged. Its efforts over recent years have secured 620 phytosanitary permits, enabling exports to 80 countries of Uzbek fruits, vegetables, and other products.

The agency's stationary and mobile laboratories have analyzed over 1 million hectares of agricultural land and calculated the appropriate rates for fertilizer application. 200,000 hectares have been aligned with the international GSP+ requirements.

Upgrades to laboratories and equipment have attracted $20 million in grants from international organizations. Also, the introduction of 7 new online systems has digitalized 40 procedures within the sector.

Plans are underway to extend phytosanitary standards to 6,000 orchards, 3,000 vineyards and fields, and 344 packaging enterprises. An additional 20 mobile agro-laboratories will be organized in the regions.

The focus of exports will be directed towards markets with higher prices, which includes obtaining phytosanitary permits for 8 new countries. Infrastructure to support the export of fruits and vegetables will be created at the airports of Tashkent, Samarkand, and Fergana.

As part of the implementation of modern standards, online monitoring of pesticide turnover will be introduced, along with the prohibition of the import and sale of substandard products. A new method of biological insect pest control using entomophagous will also be introduced.

Uzbekistan's ambitious plan signals a commitment to enhancing the quality and reach of its agricultural exports, aiming to position itself as a leading global supplier in the fruit and vegetable market.

According to the Statistics Agency, agricultural production in 2023 increased by 4.1%, with exports approaching $2 billion. This year, the country plans to boost exports by 75% to reach $3.5 billion.
