Uzbekistan national team secures 34 medals at international kickboxing tournament in Delhi
Uzbekistan athletes showcased a stellar performance at the WAKO India OPEN International Kickboxing Tournament.
The athletes from Uzbekistan claimed 34 medals across various kickboxing disciplines for both women and men, conducted in the ring and on tatami mats. Uzbek athletes stepped onto the highest podium 24 times, in addition to obtaining 7 silver and 3 bronze medals.
In the tournament, the Uzbekistan national team secured second place. The hosts claimed victory, while the representatives from Kazakhstan took third place.
"A total of 950 athletes from 15 countries, including 38 kickboxing masters from Uzbekistan, took part in this tournament," said Oybek Normetov, the chairman of the Uzbekistan Kickboxing Association. "Kickboxing is also dynamically developing in our country, along with other sports. This attests to the great attention our country's leadership pays to the realm of physical education and sports. Our national team members are elevating their achievements on the international stage, and we are confident that this will lay the foundation for future high results at world championships."
WAKO, considering the development level of kickboxing in Uzbekistan, upgraded the status of the Uzbekistan Open International Tournament to a World Cup this year. Possibilities are also being explored to host one of the world championships for this sport in Uzbekistan in the coming years.
