Drunk driver who ran into children in Khiva sentenced to 9-year imprisonment
The criminal court of the Khiva district of Khorezm region sentenced a man who committed a fatal accident in mid-December, the press service of the regional traffic police department reported.
A drunk man, while driving his Cobalt car in the evening, hit three minors on the 32nd kilometer of the Khiva-Yangiarik road. Two twin boys – Hasan and Husan – died on the spot.
In court, the defendant admitted that he consumed alcohol at the wedding and was driving home with a friend. Having hit the children, he fled from the scene.
The man admitted his guilt and asked for forgiveness from the parents of the dead children.
The court found the man guilty under Part 1 of Article 117 (leaving without help a person in a condition dangerous to life or health, if the perpetrator was obliged and had the opportunity to provide assistance to him or he himself put the victim in a dangerous condition) and Part 3 of Article 266 (violation of rules traffic safety, resulting in human casualties) and sentenced him to 9 years and 1 month in prison with deprivation of the right to drive for a period of 3 years.
