Tashkent to host International Jazz Festival
The eighth international jazz festival will be held in Tashkent from April 26 to May 12, the press service of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan told Gazeta.uz.
The festival is organized under the auspices of the UNESCO office with the assistance of embassies of several countries. Uzbekistan has been participating in the global celebration of Jazz Day since 2015.
“UNESCO believes in the power of jazz as a tool for promoting peace, dialogue and understanding, which is why in November 2011 the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed 30 April as International Jazz Day to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role in uniting people in all corners of the planet,” the fund said in a statement.
At the invitation of embassies, performers from Germany, Israel, Indonesia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, France and Switzerland will represent their countries at the festival. Such outstanding musicians as Gregory Porter (USA), Kenny Garrett (USA), Igor Butman (Russia) and others will perform for the Uzbek people.
Uzbekistan will be represented, as last year, by the Jazzirama group, which will perform on April 27. On April 30, a concert marathon will take place, in which performers representing different generations and movements of Russian jazz will take part.
The festival concerts will be held in the open air on the site behind the Palace of International Forums “Uzbekistan”. Admission is free for everyone.
In addition, master classes will be held as part of the festival, which will bring together musicians from Uzbekistan and representatives of foreign countries.
