Foreign big-tech paid nearly 24 billion UZS in taxes in Uzbekistan over three months
Payments from 57 overseas IT companies increased by a third, surpassing 23 billion UZS.
At the close of the first quarter, foreign IT companies paid nearly 24 billion UZS in taxes in Uzbekistan, the Tax Committee said.
Tax payments by 57 foreign enterprises providing electronic services amounted to 23.6 billion UZS, a 36.4% year-on-year increase from 2023. More than 95% of payments came from the top ten IT companies.
Meta leads among foreign companies in tax payments, contributing 8.9 billion UZS to the state budget. Google follows with 6.5 billion UZS, and then Apple with 4.5 billion UZS. Booking.com with 776.8 million UZS and Amazon with 549.4 million UZS also made significant contributions.
For the first time, the auditing firm Acca entered the top ten of major foreign taxpayers, withholding VAT amounting to 337.3 million UZS.
Other companies in the top 10 include Zoom (333.3 million UZS), Netflix (324.7 million UZS), Yandex (212.1 million UZS), and Xsolla (193.4 million UZS).
In 2023, foreign tech companies paid almost 70 billion sums in taxes to the state budget, 56.2% more than the previous year.
Since the beginning of 2020, foreign legal entities that provide services and goods in electronic form, deemed to take place in Uzbekistan, are considered taxpayers regarding such services provided to individuals.
The Tax Committee has established a VAT office, enabling foreign IT companies operating in the Republic to register and begin paying taxes.
