Andijan court fines woman for wearing burqa in public

In a recent court ruling in Andijan, a woman was charged for wearing a burqa in public, which obscured her identity. The incident took place on June 14, Uznews.uz reported.

The individual, identified as S.A., was officially charged under Article 184-4 of the Administrative Responsibility Code, which addresses the requirement for personal identification in public areas.

The court applied against the woman an administrative sanction, levying a fine equivalent to 1 BCA (340 UZS).

It should be reminded that recently amendments were made to the Administrative Responsibility Code, according to which covering one's face in full, not allowing personal identification, would entail administrative liability. In particular, wearing a burqa may result in a fine of 10 to 15 BCAs (from 3.3 million UZS to 4.95 million UZS).
