China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project agreement ratified

On July 8, a presidential decree "On the Ratification of the International Agreement" was adopted, according to a report by the "Legal Information" Telegram channel.

In accordance with the decree, the cooperation agreement between the Chinese government, the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers, and the government of Uzbekistan on the joint implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project was ratified.

The agreement was signed in Beijing on June 6, 2024. The Ministry of Transport has been designated as the authorized body responsible for implementing this international agreement.

The Cabinet of Ministers and relevant ministries and agencies will oversee the enforcement of the agreement's provisions following its ratification.

In May 2023, the First Project and Research Institute of China Railway Construction Corporation completed the technical and economic feasibility study for the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.

According to the analysis, the construction of the railway will efficiently accommodate the increasing volume of freight traffic and significantly reduce transport time and costs. The President of Uzbekistan highlighted these points during the signing ceremony.

Experts estimate that the annual freight volume could reach up to 15 million tons, with the delivery time to end consumers reduced to 7 days. Additionally, modern transit and logistics infrastructure, warehouses, and terminals will be established.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the economic impact of the project's implementation will benefit all participating countries.

"Firstly, new enterprises and tens of thousands of jobs will be created, the volume of mutual trade and industrial cooperation will increase, investment attractiveness will grow, and most importantly, the living standards of our citizens will improve," he said.

The railway will provide our countries with access to the vast markets of South Asia and the Middle East through the promising Trans-Afghan corridor, significantly enhancing transit potential and inter-regional connectivity, the president added.
