President launches construction of 500 MW solar power plant in Fergana region

Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the ceremony marking the start of several industrial and energy projects in the Fergana region.

Indorama is commencing the third phase of modernization of the Kokand superphosphate plant, which it privatized in 2019. The production expansion is planned to be completed by the end of 2028.

Within the project framework, the production of mono- and dicalcium phosphates, mono ammonium phosphate, potassium nitrate, monopotassium phosphate, calcium chloride, and a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium complex will be established. The investment volume is estimated at $100 million.

Additionally, in the Besharyk district, the construction of a 500 MW solar photovoltaic power plant is beginning. The $350 million project involves the German company Hyper Partners, with whom an agreement was signed in January.

The first phase of the 200 MW solar power plant is planned to be connected this year, and the full project is expected to be operational by 2025. The plant will annually generate 1.6 billion kWh of electricity, saving 466 million cubic meters of natural gas.

In the Uzbekistan district, China's Gezhouba Group will invest $144 million in creating an energy storage system. The 150 MW battery complex, with automatic activation during peak demand periods, is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

The president also launched two small hydropower plants built to supply electricity to residents of remote areas. One hydropower plant, with a capacity of 2.2 MW, is located in Shahimardan, and the other, with a capacity of 430 kW, is in the village of Yukori Vodil.
