Uzbekistan saves 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas through renewable energy initiatives
Uzbekistan saved 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas since the beginning of the year due to the commissioning of new capacities in green energy, said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
"As a result of implementing green energy projects in the first half of the year, 10 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2.4 GW were put into operation, producing 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of green energy. This allowed saving 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas," Mirziyoyev said at a government meeting.
By 2030, Uzbekistan plans to increase the capacity of renewable energy sources (RES) to over 20 GW, which will make up approximately 40% of the country's total energy balance.
In 2025, two wind power plants with a capacity of 500 MW each will be commissioned in the Peshku and Gijduvan districts of the Bukhara region, and in 2026, four wind power plants with a total capacity of 1600 MW will be launched in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
