"China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway construction to begin in October 2024
The railway will run along the route "Kashgar – Torugart – Makmal – Jalal-Abad – Andijan."
The construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway is scheduled to begin in October 2024, according to Risqulbek Jumabayev, head of the Capital Construction Department of Kyrgyz Temir Jolu.
He noted that this international project, as well as the "Balykchy – Kochkor – Kara-Keche – Makmal" railway, will become key transportation arteries for the country and help remove Kyrgyzstan from geographic isolation.
The "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway will become part of the southern branch of the Trans-Eurasian transport corridor.
According to the agreement, the planned railway will follow the route "Kashgar – Torugart – Makmal – Jalal-Abad – Andijan." It is expected to have an annual cargo capacity of 15 million tons and reduce delivery times for consumers to seven days.
Kyrgyzstan intends to obtain loans from Chinese banks for the construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway. The total project cost is estimated at $4.7 billion.
