Ex-minister Muzaffar Soliev imprisoned for 7 years
Muzaffar Soliev, former Minister of Housing and Communal Economy and Mayor of Nurafshan city, was sentenced to 7 years in prison. He was found guilty of committing crimes of looting state property and professional fraud.
The press service of Tashkent city courts informed Kun.uz that the court verdict was read against Muzaffar Soliev, who served as Minister of Housing and Communal Economy from 2017 to 2021, and Mayor of Nurafshan city (Tashkent region) from 2021 to 2023.
The case against Soliev was heard on March 13 of this year in the Shaykhantakhur district court on criminal proceedings. According to the verdict of the court of first instance, the former minister was found guilty of committing crimes under Clauses “a” and “v” of Article 167 (misappropriation or embezzlement), and Clauses “a”, “b” of Part 2 of Article 209 (professional fraud) of the Criminal Code. According to the court’s verdict, the former mayor and minister was deprived of the right to work as an official and materially responsible person for 3 years and was deprived of freedom for a period of 7 years. It is prescribed to serve the sentence in colonies of general order.
The appellate court left the verdict of the first instance court unchanged with its ruling on July 30 of this year.
For information, Muzaffar Soliev served as Minister of Housing and Communal Services from July 5, 2017 to January 2021. He was fired after a critical CabMin meeting. In early 2023, it was reported that he was involved in an investigation related to his work as a minister.
On January 15, 2021, he was appointed the mayor of Nurafshan city. Soliev also served as the Deputy Minister of Defense for Personnel.
