SSS Chief Abdusalom Azizov: Assisting Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism is key to regional stability
The head of Uzbekistan's State Security Service, Abdusalom Azizov, emphasized the need to unify efforts in combating international terrorism due to the complex military-political processes unfolding in the region. He also highlighted the importance of joint efforts with Afghan special services in combating the "Islamic State's Khorasan Province."
The 10th International Scientific and Practical Conference of the SCO's Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) and the 2nd Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism of the CIS are currently ongoing in Tashkent.
During the plenary session of the conference, Abdusalom Azizov, General-Lieutenant and head of Uzbekistan's State Security Service, delivered a speech. The SSS chief stated that the complex and contradictory military-political processes in the region demand that states unite their efforts and coordinate measures in the fight against international terrorism, extremism, and radicalism.
"This situation poses a direct threat to the security of the SCO member states. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the leaders of international terrorist organizations have not abandoned their destructive plans against our countries.
The Afghan government, within the limits of its capabilities and resources, is fighting international terrorism. The Afghan special services are leading the fight against ISKP (Islamic State's Khorasan Province) and have achieved certain results. Therefore, we must fight the enemy together. It is crucial to assist Afghanistan in the fight against 'Khorasan Province' because weakening countermeasures will lead to the strengthening of this group, which in turn threatens regional security," UzA quoted Azizov as saying.
Additionally, the SSS chief emphasized that mutual trust, regular information exchange, and coordinated actions in combating international terrorism, extremism, and cyber threats can effectively ensure stability and security in states.
"Therefore, holding today's international conference is timely, as it provides participants with the opportunity to discuss the current state of challenges and security threats, develop effective countermeasures, and strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation at the international and regional levels," said Abdusalom Azizov.
