South Korean investors to fund $36 million "smart" greenhouse project in Tashkent region

The Agency for Strategic Reforms has published a set of proposals for the economic development of Buka district in Tashkent region.

The package of measures was prepared by the district and regional administrations with the participation of businesses. For example, two industrial zones are planned to be established in the "Juraobod" and "Kuk Orol" neighborhoods, covering a total area of 100.8 hectares.

Additionally, in the "Samarkand" neighborhood, the construction of "smart" greenhouses covering 220 hectares is proposed for growing a new variety of tomatoes. South Korean investors intend to invest up to $36 million in the project.

The tomatoes grown will be processed locally. Moreover, there are plans to create a complex for the quick-freezing of fruits and vegetables in the district for subsequent export.

Along the section of the A-373 highway that runs through the district, commercial and service facilities covering a total area of 50 hectares are planned. It is expected that by March, the lands adjacent to the road will be allocated to entrepreneurs.

There are also plans to move the agricultural market from the "Uzbek" neighborhood closer to the highway, with the current market site being repurposed for the construction of multi-story residential buildings. In Buka, a new road is planned between Markaziy and Sadokat streets, along which 16 houses will be built.

On the site of the "Buka Cotton Cleaning" plant, a local housing complex called "New Uzbekistan" may be built. On an 8.5-hectare area, it is planned to construct 40 seven-story and three nine-story buildings, along with commercial and service facilities.

By November 1, a tourist street is planned to be established in the "Yangi Hayot" neighborhood along a 500-meter section of Alisher Navoi Street. The street will feature 24-hour retail, entertainment, gastronomic, and tourist establishments.
