Uzbekistan Airways to lease two Airbus A321neo jets for 2026 expansion

Uzbekistan Airways has entered a leasing agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital for two Airbus A321neo aircraft, scheduled for delivery in 2026, according to the airline's press service. These planes will be the first of their kind in the national carrier’s fleet, marking a significant step forward in expanding its operational capabilities.

The new aircraft, expected to be delivered upon completion of manufacturing, are part of Uzbekistan Airways' broader strategy to enhance its presence in European and Southeast Asian markets. The airline's CEO, Shukhrat Khudaykulov, highlighted the company's ambitious goals to become a leading carrier in the Central Asian region. "We aim to consistently expand our route network, increase flight frequency, and operate efficiently with new Airbus A320/A321 NEO family aircraft," he stated.

Uzbekistan Airways' ongoing fleet expansion reflects its commitment to modernizing its operations and strengthening its competitive edge. Earlier this year, the airline added two Airbus A330 planes through a "wet lease" agreement with Qanot Sharq, ensuring they will serve the carrier for at least one year.

This move follows a broader trend in Uzbekistan's aviation sector, with private airline Centrum Air also acquiring an Airbus A321neo in August under a long-term leasing contract.
