Russian Railways extends fruit and vegetable transport discount for Uzbekistan through 2025
Russian Railways (RZD) has announced the extension of its discount on transporting fruit and vegetable products from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan through 2025. According to the company’s press service, the 50% discount on refrigerated transport for fresh produce, which has been in place since January 2021, will continue for another year.
Additionally, RZD extended a 20.4% discount for the transportation of goods in refrigerated containers from the Selatino station in the Moscow region to Uzbekistan’s Sergeli and Jizzakh stations. The discount applies to shipments passing through the Kanisay border station and, for return journeys, through the Ozinki station.
The discount aims to support the continued growth of agricultural exports from Uzbekistan, a key supplier of fruits and vegetables to Russia.
Uzbekistan's exports of fruit and vegetable products reached 1.35 million tons from January to August 2024, a 9% year-on-year increase, amounting to $922.8 million. Russia remains Uzbekistan's largest market, accounting for 44% of exports by value, followed by Pakistan (15.2%), Kazakhstan (14.6%), Afghanistan (6.6%), and Kyrgyzstan (4.3%).
