Inflation in Uzbekistan hit 13.4% in September, with prices for fuel, meat, and dairy products jumping the most
In September, Uzbekistan's population reported a noticeable inflation rate of 13.4%, with many residents highlighting significant increases in the prices of meat, dairy products, and fuel. According to a recent survey conducted by the Central Bank, a large proportion of respondents noted sharp rises in the costs of essential goods, particularly meat and milk, as well as gasoline and other fuel types.
The Central Bank's survey results indicate that the inflation rate perceived by the public was 13.4%. Regionally, the highest inflation was recorded in Tashkent city at 15.4% and in Andijan region at 14.6%. In contrast, the lowest inflation rates were observed in the Fergana (12.1%) and Navoi (12.2%) regions.
Respondents predominantly pointed to significant price increases for meat and milk, alongside gasoline and fuel. Additionally, there was a marked rise in the perception of price increases for medicines (29%) and rental costs (18%) throughout the month.
Among individuals with monthly incomes exceeding 5 million UZS, the perceived inflation rate was higher than the national average. Specifically, those earning over 15 million UZS reported an inflation rate of 15.4%. Conversely, respondents earning up to 2 million UZS experienced a comparatively lower perceived inflation rate of 12.8%.
In Surkhandarya and Andijan regions, 35% of respondents reported inflation rates exceeding 17%, while in Tashkent city, this figure reached 33%.
Earlier reports indicated that the annual growth rate of prices in the consumer sector for September was 10.46%. The disparity between the perceived inflation and the official rate stood at 2.9%.
