Several Uzbek airlines return passengers nearly 200 million UZS for service issues
Uzbekistan’s airlines have refunded a total of 195 million UZS to passengers following service shortcomings. The Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee announced the reimbursements, which were made due to various service-related issues such as unreturned funds for unused tickets, delayed flight notifications, and damaged luggage.
Over the past nine months, the committee received more than 200 complaints related to these problems. One notable case involved a resident of Namangan who purchased first-class tickets from Air Samarqand for a flight to Vietnam. The passenger did not receive the promised additional services and was subsequently refunded 10.1 million UZS.
Another case involved Uzbekistan Airways. A consumer from Tashkent bought tickets worth 21.5 million UZS for his family to fly to Istanbul. However, due to an error by the airline, they were unable to board the flight. The issue arose because the children's passports were set to expire in October 2024, and Turkish law requires foreign nationals' passports to be valid for at least 150 days upon entry. Although the passport information was entered correctly during the booking process on the airline’s website, the system failed to alert the customer about this requirement and sold the tickets regardless.
Both cases underscore the importance of transparency and consumer rights in the airline industry, with the committee continuing to work on protecting passengers' interests.
