Alisher Ganiev wins Uzbekistan's first U23 Greco-Roman Wrestling gold
Nineteen-year-old Alisher Ganiev has made history for Uzbekistan by securing the country’s first-ever gold medal at the U23 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships. His victory also marks the first time Uzbekistan has won gold in this age category at the event.
The U23 World Championships, currently taking place in Albania, saw Ganiev face Russian athlete Dinislam Bammatov, who competed under a neutral flag, in the final bout. Ganiev emerged victorious with a decisive 8-4 win, earning the gold in the 60 kg weight category.
This achievement is particularly significant as Uzbekistan had never previously secured a medal at youth world championships in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Ganiev’s triumph not only brings pride to the nation but also marks a new era in Uzbek wrestling on the global stage.
