OSCE discusses outcomes of Uzbekistan's parliamentary elections
During a recent meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, Uzbekistan's Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, presented the results of the parliamentary elections held in Uzbekistan.
The briefing was attended by representatives from 57 participating states, partner countries, and leaders of the organization’s executive structures.
Ibragimov provided details regarding the elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as regional, district, and city councils of people’s deputies, which took place on October 27.
Notably, this election cycle marked the first time in Uzbekistan's history that parliamentary elections were conducted using a mixed electoral system. The activities of the electoral commissions were fully digitized, and the voting processes incorporated technological innovations and inclusivity. It was emphasized that the elections were organized in accordance with the Constitution of Uzbekistan, the Electoral Code, and international standards.
Appreciation was expressed for the efforts of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Secretariat of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for sending extensive election observation missions. Uzbekistan expressed its interest in continuing constructive cooperation with the OSCE following the final report of the mission, with the recommendations outlined therein to be duly considered.
Heads of diplomatic missions from several foreign countries congratulated Uzbekistan on the successful conduct of the parliamentary elections, acknowledging that the elections were organized in line with open, fair, and democratic principles.
