Competition Committee cancels 3.7 billion UZS unjustified debts for Jizzakh companies

Several companies in the Jizzakh region will see 3.7 billion UZS in gas debts written off following an intervention by the Competition Committee. This move follows complaints by local businesses, including gas stations, about allegedly unjustified charges by state gas supplier Hududgaztaminot and its regional branch, Hududgaz Jizzakh.

The Committee launched an investigation after receiving formal complaints from businesses in sectors such as mining and automotive gas refueling. These companies argued that Hududgaztaminot had imposed arbitrary charges, leading to inflated debt levels in their gas accounts.

As a result of the inquiry, Hududgaztaminot was instructed to remove the erroneous debt records from its electronic system, effectively canceling the 3.7 billion UZS in charges.

In a related measure, amid sharp increases in propane prices, the Committee announced on November 5 the introduction of a price cap for propane trades on Uzbekistan’s commodity exchange. The cap limits bids to 20% above the seller's initial price to curb soaring costs. However, several sources suggested that this price limit could constrain competition, arguing that by capping prices, the government restricts bidding flexibility, as all participants are likely to submit the highest allowed bid.
