Government sets ambitious goal to lift 1 million citizens out of poverty by 2025

Lifting one million citizens out of poverty by 2025 will be a key priority for Uzbekistan’s government, according to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who addressed the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve living standards and reduce unemployment nationwide.

To achieve this goal, the government has allocated 500 billion UZS to provide free education in foreign languages, vocational skills, and IT training for children from low-income families. Additionally, infrastructure improvement programs will be implemented in 1,000 underprivileged neighborhoods, with a budget of 2 trillion UZS.

These measures are integral to the “From Poverty to Prosperity” program, which was launched following successful projects in the Saykhunobod, Uychi, Zarbdor, and Gijduvon districts earlier this year. The program takes a multifaceted approach, offering tailored support packages that include quality education, job training, employment assistance, healthcare improvements, and psychological support for low-income families.

The government plans to spend a total of 46.5 trillion UZS on poverty reduction and improving living conditions. The initiative is also aligned with the long-term target of keeping unemployment within the internationally recognized threshold of 5–6% by 2030.
