UNOPS and IDB helps modernize cancer care in Uzbekistan with $41 million equipment supply
The project includes the purchase of modern diagnostic and radiological equipment, as well as other medical and IT devices.
UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) and the government of Uzbekistan, through a loan financed by the Islamic Development Bank, are implementing a project aimed at improving access to and the quality of cancer services in 13 regions and Tashkent by purchasing and installing diagnostic, treatment, laboratory, radiological, and information-communication equipment.
Thanks to the implementation of the project the new Oncology and Radiology Center in Tashkent has quickly received the most modern and high-tech medical equipment from leading global manufacturers.
Currently, UNOPS has delivered equipment worth over $41 million to the country, including modern diagnostic and radiological equipment, as well as various other medical and IT devices.
By the end of 2024, additional equipment worth $18 million will be delivered, including modern body mapping equipment and other specialized technologies.
The project's goal is to modernize cancer care in Uzbekistan. Its aim is to annually provide more than 150,000 cancer patients with access to quality cancer services, including rapid and accurate cancer detection, targeted therapy, and personalized care. This ultimately reduces the number of unnecessary procedures and shortens patient recovery times.
It is expected that this initiative will increase daily clinical services by 40% and improve inpatient services by 20%.
