Newcastle United joins transfer race for Abdukodir Khusanov

Abdukodir Khusanov, a defender for the Uzbekistan national team and French club Lens, is at the center of a heated transfer battle, with Newcastle United, the Saudi-owned English club, reportedly preparing to outbid all other competitors by offering 20 million EUR for the 20-year-old Uzbek defender.

Currently, one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, Newcastle, is in advanced negotiations for Khusanov, although Lens is reportedly looking to earn 40 million EUR from the defender’s sale.

Other clubs interested in the player include England’s Manchester City, Leicester, and Chelsea, as well as France’s PSG. Manchester City is considered the favorite to sign the Uzbek defender.

Earlier, it was also reported that Real Madrid had entered the race for Khusanov.

Renowned agent Jorge Mendes, one of the most influential figures in world football, is reportedly now managing the search for a new club for Khusanov. Mendes' involvement confirms that the player's market value is on the rise. His transfer fee is currently estimated at 25-30 million EUR (20-25 million GBP).

Khusanov’s father, Khikmatjon Khoshimov, his agent Gairat Khasbiullin, and Manchester City have already held a meeting.

For Newcastle, Khusanov represents more than just a way to strengthen their current defense – he’s also a key long-term investment. With their main defenders, Fabian Schär and Dan Burn, both over 30 years old, the club is actively looking for younger talents who can complement Sven Botman. Khusanov’s composure, strength, and pace make him an ideal candidate to solidify Newcastle’s defense for years to come.
