Istomin loses tournament final to an American player in Challenger series
Uzbekistan’s R1 Denis Istomin, in the final of the tournament in Columbus, lost to Jeffrey Wolf, who ranks 163rd in the world rating. The game ended with a score of 6-4, 6-2, the NOC press service reported.
Opponents have never met before.
It is noted that with the achieved result, Istomin chalked up 48 points in the world ranking and also received $4,240.
“I tried my hardest in every point,” said Wolf following the game. “Stayed low, served well and tried to compete for every point. I think consistency and keeping a high level were essential for me this week. I played so many great players – there weren’t any easy matches. So, really staying on my game and staying focused is what pulled me through.”
It should be noted that now Istomin will enter the court as part of the selection for the Davis Cup against the US team, which starts on March 6.
