Indefinite moratorium to be imposed on mining mineral resources in Syrdarya basin
From May 1, an indefinite moratorium will be introduced on the mining of mineral resources in the Syrdarya riverbed, and the responsibility for the damage caused to nature as a result of illegal mining will be increased.
In accordance with the presidential decree signed on March 11, 2024, amendments and additions were made to the decree “On measures to regulate the extraction of mineral materials in water bodies”.
From May 1, 2024, an indefinite moratorium will be imposed on the mining of mineral resources in the Syrdarya River basin, as well as increased liability for damage to nature caused by illegal mining.
Measures will be taken to strengthen the washed-out banks of the Syrdarya River, to restore the natural state of damaged lands in the coastal region, and to rehabilitate them.
