Emu bird in Tashkent Zoo undergoes emergency surgery due to food thrown by a visitor
An emu bird injured by visitors at the Tashkent Zoo underwent surgery. The chief veterinarian of the zoo, Makhmud Kuzibayev, spoke about this.
The visitor threw crackers over the fence. To get them, one of the birds stuck its head under the bars and got stuck.
Trying to free his head, the emu damaged his mandible, cartilage, throat and trachea.
“We had to quickly and urgently make a decision and perform surgery on the spot, because a lot of blood was lost,” Makhmud Kuzibayev said.
The emu’s condition is now stable, the veterinarian noted.
The zoo once again reminded us that you cannot bring food with you or feed these animals.
There have been previous cases of animals suffering and even dying due to food, bags and toys abandoned by visitors.
