Asian Women’s Forum kicks off in Samarkand
This morning, the Asian Women’s Forum began its work in the city of Samarkand on the topic “Regional approach to expanding the economic, social and political rights and opportunities of women”.
Its goal is to realize the creative potential of women leaders of the countries of the region, exchange experience in further expanding their participation in state and public administration, and the economy.
The initiative to hold the forum was put forward by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
The forum is attended by women parliamentarians from the countries of East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Central Asia, heads of government, representatives of government bodies and civil society institutions, business women, political scientists, social activists, scientists, representatives of economic sectors and various fields.
The forum will discuss the participation of women in the region in science, education, innovation and the use of digital technologies, poverty reduction by expanding the economic opportunities of women in the modern global economy, and their involvement in entrepreneurship, leadership and innovation.
In addition, the issue of women’s participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will be addressed. Particular attention will be paid to eliminating all forms of violence, ensuring equal and safe working conditions for women, eliminating discrimination and violence in the workplace.
Participants will also discuss the practical implementation of the decisions of the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the role of parliaments in promoting economic opportunities for women’s participation in business and society, as well as the role of non-governmental organizations in the region in protecting the rights and interests of women.
